EmTech Workload
The EmTech masters is designed for the busy schedule of full-time working professionals.
Evening course meetings are available both synchronously (live) and asynchronously (recorded).
While actual hours spent weekly over the two years will vary by student, typical per course
weekly workload is as follows:
One hour and 50 minute evening meeting per course, per week (synchronous or asynchronous)
One hour engaging with the instructor in the course shell per week
Three hours of homework and student engagement in the course shell per week
Three hours of outside reading or student activity per week
For the two courses per semester, most students make five visits per week to the course shells
(websites), usually in the evenings, and take two days off. Each semester students interact with
two learning groups in two course shells, and may be a member of two project teams. A typical
weekly schedule might be:

Years of experience have shown that this schedule, or something similar, will dovetail well
with your work, family, and other priorities. If you can ask for and gain a verbal commitment
from your employers, family members, and others to help you protect a few hours each day
(typically two hours a day, if you are managing your time well), five days a week, for the
six semesters of your masters, this strategy is particularly recommended. Enlisting such advance
commitments to support your professional development will make your progress through the program
rapid, consistent, and pleasurable.
