Moving Digital Interaction into the Future

The Web and Social Media Technologies major will introduce students to the process of designing and deploying web infrastructures, creating content and maintaining websites with a fundamental shift to web 2.0 technologies and deployment of web technologies to mobile devices. This program will prepare students to design and develop professional looking materials for placement on the web and partner with mobile device development to create location based services and applications for the mobile web.

Graduating students will have developed the skills, techniques and knowledge required to create dynamic data-driven front- and back-end web applications. Along with a solid background in illustration and design concepts, Web and Social Media Technologies students must become familiar with the programming, scripting and content-creation tools needed to create and maintain content and applications. The coursework will also give the fundamentals of creating e-commerce sites.

Web and Social Media Technologies Degree Objectives (BS)

  • Design and develop interactive applications that show mastery of web design practices.
  • Demonstrate advanced programming and database management skills, including mark-up languages and client/server scripting applications.
  • Demonstrate customer-centered design, usability, accessibility deployed across multiple platforms and devices.
  • Analyze web-based marketing concepts such as search-engine optimization, audience analysis, data mining as a basis for innovative endeavors.
  • Integrate web-based, context-sensitive applications into mobile technology products to provide the user with smart interactive experiences.
  • Apply business development and project management models for the content management of new or revised web presence that supports missions and goals and the long term maintenance and growth of a website.
