A Mass Effect Fan Film: RED SAND

Serving as a prequel
to the MASS EFFECT game series,"Red Sand" is set 35 years before the time of Commander Shepard and tells the story of the discovery of ancient ruins on Mars.
Future visual effects artists, visual storytellers, editors and digital filmmakers can bring their vision and ambition to UAT confident that they will find a leading-edge technological environment and creative community to support them as they pursue their goals.

The UAT campus is tricked out with wall-to-wall technology. The University’s datacenter contains more than 60 physical servers and 20-30 Virtualized Servers that handle all services and traffic. The student dorm, Founder’s Hall is connected with 125 MBit WiMax wireless, protected by Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256) and the campus offers free wireless coverage to all students and visitors.

The University deploys enough workstations for local system usage for all users. These workstations are purchased annually with a 33% cycle, which means 1/3 of the workstations are replaced with new each year. These workstations have a minimum of 4GB of RAM (about a third of the workstations have 6GB of RAM), Nvidia video cards, and connect to the server environment with a 100MB switched Ethernet connection.

But what about the digital video technology, you ask? The University provides HD cameras, lighting and audio equipment and an editing and special effects studio, all of which are up to industry standards. From day one you’ll get hands-on experience with the same gear the pros use. You will also have access to software applications from Avid, Apple, Adobe and more – again, the same tools that are used to create the effects and images in major motion picture releases.
On the initial production side:
Green screen stage + Cortex software for tracking and editing motion capture data
High Def Camcorders with all the lenses and support equipment to capture beautiful images
Dollies, tripods, and crane arms for sweeping camera moves
Lighting: same as you would see on a Hollywood set
Great digital audio equipment and microphones
Portable digital audio recorders that output to SD memory cards which means there’s no more “tape” in audio recording
Even a 3D printer that can be used to create elaborate and realistic-looking props

For post-production:
Avid film Production Lab
10 top-of-the line HP workstations set up with Avid Media Composer – the industry standard for digital video editing. All 10 of last year’s 10 Oscar- nominated Best films were edited on an Avid product.
Full Adobe Creative Suite 5 suite– running applications like Premier Pro, After Effects, Bridge and Photoshop
Autodesk 3D Studio MAX and Maya
Final Cut Pro - Apple’s industry-leading post-production suite
